Golden Gate City

Gateway To The Gold

150 years ago the gold rushers of the new gold mining region we now call Colorado established a new town at the entrance of one of the foremost routes to the gold fields in the mountains. Golden Gate City, as it was fittingly called, stood at the gates to the gold, offering trade and supplies to all the miners about to venture forth in hopes of finding fortune. Today all that remains of Gate City is its most important asset, the road built by one of its founders which led the rushers to the Gregory gold fields of today's Gilpin County. The town of Golden Gate was an important piece of Jefferson County's gold rushing past.
